Anticipation Guides are a great way to engage students in the reading process.
Before reading: have students complete the “Anticipation” page to get them ready to read. Instead of pulling from prior knowledge while reading, this prepares their brains to start pulling out the pieces they may need!
During reading: students stop and complete the “Pit Stop” (we stay in Guido’s voice from Cars at my house) to allow students to check for understanding. They will also use what they’ve read to make predictions for how the book will go.
After reading: “The End” is a great way to summarize the reading, as well as gives students voice in their book rating.
