A few years ago, I had a student come to me saying that another student kicked him. I was shocked because this was way out of character for that student. I called him over and asked if he kicked the first student, and he exclaimed “yes! He’s being so annoying on the doc, so I kicked him!” I told him I would have to call his dad and there would be consequences (this was right at the end of the day). Dad was very responsive and said he would talk to his son. The next day; the student was being dropped off for a morning club and his dad pulled me aside and said “he swears that ‘kicked’ meant that he kicked the other student out of a document they shared together” and apologized saying he could have been lying.
Tuens out, that was exactly the case. The other student was mad about being removed from the document. And I was incredibly embarrassed.
